Wines - Ametller

Ametller

The Ametller family has been dedicated to the culture of vine in the Catalan region of the Penedès since the first half of XIX century.
The founder of this saga of grape-growers was Joan Ametller Fortuny, originally coming from Salomó, in the neighboring region of Tarragona, settled down in the town of Sant Martí Sarroca (in the northern part of the Penedès) in 1824.
In 1832, he acquired then the very small operation that, during the course of time, would be transformed into the present Ametller Property.
His descendants developed the wine-growing operation and produced broths that were distributed through the traditional bulk channels of that time.
The enology of the new millennium has reaffirmed that the final quality of the product is very much predetermined by what occurs in the initial phase of this wonderful process: the evolution of the grape in the vineyard.
The men and women of the Ametller Property that form part of seven consecutive generations taking care of its lands, know perfectly which land is most suitable for the cultivation of each one of the varieties, and the exact moment to carry out each task and which is the ideal moment to collect the grape.

The Ametller Property, located in the high part of the region of the Alt Penedés, is made up of 43 hectares of vineyards, distributed between the municipalities of Sant Martí Sarroca and Torrelles de Foix.

It is in Morera de Montsant at 700m of altitude, where a property of 23 hectares was acquired, denominated "Mas del Mustardo", that has been prepared in modern terraces where the varieties of red, white Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay as an experimental variety are cultivated.

It is here where the modern warehouse has been constructed that extends through 1300m2 and is divided in three levels: the main floor destined to the elaboration and fermentation of the broths, the bottom one is the barrels room for bottling and ageing, whereas in the top floor which is the tasting floor, one can observe magnificent views of the Mountain range of the Montsant.
